Female Hormone imbalance:it's effect on overall wellbeing

Updated: Sep 13

Let's talk about something that affects many of us women, especially between the ages of 35 and 55... Hormone Imbalance!

You might be surprised to know that hormone imbalance can affect your:

Mood (anxiety, depression, irritability)

Weight loss efforts (resistance to weight loss, despite diet and exercise)

Cardiovascular health (increased risk of heart disease)

Overall health (fatigue, brain fog, sleep disturbances)

Digestive health (bloating, cramps, diarrhea)

Skin health (acne, dryness, thinning)

Hair and nail health (thinning, brittle)

Libido (low sex drive)

Cognitive function (memory, focus)

But here's the thing... Hormone imbalance often goes overlooked! Many women are prescribed antidepressants for premenopausal symptoms, without addressing the underlying hormonal issues.

So, what are the symptoms of perimenopause and menopause?

Mood swings

Hot flashes

Night sweats

Sleep disturbances

Vaginal dryness

Weight gain

Fatigue

Bloating

Breast tenderness

Migraines

Memory loss

And, did you know that certain herbs and supplements can help alleviate some of these symptoms?

Some of these herbs include:

Black cohosh for hot flashes and night sweats

Macca for energy and libido

Omega-3 fatty acids for mood and heart health

Probiotics for digestive health ( fermented foods such as Kombucha, Kimchi, Sauerkraut Yoghurt ...can help)

Vitamin D for bone health

BUT, before adding any supplements to your routine, please let your healthcare provider know!

They can help you determine the best course of action for your individual needs.

In addition to supplements, lifestyle changes can also help alleviate symptoms:

Eat a balanced diet rich in whole foods

Exercise regularly (yoga, walking, swimming)

Practice stress-reducing techniques (meditation, deep breathing)

Get enough sleep (7-8 hours per night)

Stay hydrated (drink plenty of water)

If you're experiencing these symptoms, and everything else looks normal, it's time to request a hormone check!

And, let's talk about Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)... It's not often advocated for, but it can be a game-changer for many women!

So, if you think you might need help in this area, start a conversation with your medical provider today!

Don't let hormone imbalance hold you back from living your best life!

Always test, don't guess!
